We bow to each other not simply from the waist, but from the heart.īut what occurs when emotion work, feeling rules, and the gift of exchange are introduced into the public world of work? In search of the answer, Arlie Russell Hochschild closely examines two groups of public-contact workers: flight attendants and bill collectors. Based on our private mutual understandings of feeling rules, we make a "gift exchange" of acts of emotion management. In trying to bridge a gap between what we feel and what we "ought" to feel, we take guidance from "feeling rules" about what is owing to others in a given situation. In private life, we try to induce or suppress love, envy, and anger through deep acting or "emotion work," just as we manage our outer expressions of feeling through surface acting.

This book was so rich and full it is hard to describe. Instantly I was launched into the world of Eleanor and Park, Eleanor not only new at school but new in her own house after her dictator of a step-father kicked her out for a year and Park with his disapproving father and punk mix tapes. This book took me right out of my reading slump as soon as I picked it up. Set over the course of one school year in 1986, Eleanor Park is funny, sad, shocking and true – an exquisite nostalgia trip for anyone who has never forgotten their first love. They fall in love the way you do the first time, when you're 16, and you have nothing and everything to lose. Slowly, steadily, through late-night conversations and an ever-growing stack of mix tapes, Eleanor and Park fall in love. Quiet, careful and – in Eleanor's eyes – impossibly cool, Park's worked out that flying under the radar is the best way to get by. Then she takes the seat on the bus next to Park. All mismatched clothes, mad red hair and chaotic home life, she couldn't stick out more if she tried. Eleanor is the new girl in town, and she's never felt more alone. However Eleanor and Park was one of those books. Very rarely do I read a book that makes me so incredibly happy and warm inside, even if the content really isn't that happiness-inducing. From the moment you start reading this story, you are given tiny little pieces of the bigger picture. A wild ride is certain for anyone brave enough to pick this book and upcoming series a try.I can not wait for the second book to be released. Antichrist is a well-crafted and intriguing story that will captivate you from the very first page. That's honestly the best way I have found to even speak about this book without spoiling everything. It is told in multiple points of view, which is my favorite, but you had better make sure to make sure you read the chapter heading to confirm who's mind you are in. The men are hot as can be, dangerous and full of secrets. It read much like a thriller with excitement, spice, and so much more. She has such a writing style that keeps you guessing and when you think you know something it will twist and you are left once again trying to find the answers that you seek. The gothic setting and feeling were absolutely phenomenal setting the tone for a very thrilling ride. In normal Amo Jones fashion, I was engulfed in this world. The gothic dream-like vibes, the characters that keep you wanting more and the plot that keeps you guessing is just everything. Boneyard Tides is absolutely one of my favorite reads of this year. I have no idea what I was reading in the most delicious way. This is a book that you have absolutely no idea what is going on. In fact, there was zero romance in Book 1 and only a kind of potential romance in Book 2 (even though you know what’s going to happen from the start). The series did have a romance that started out as slave/master, but it wasn’t some immediate jump from one to the other in a Stockholm Syndrome sort of way. It turned out, however, that I had the complete wrong idea about this book I thought it would be a dark slave/master romance/erotica-which, aside from the dark part, I don’t even usually like, so why exactly did I think this would be my kind of book?-but that wasn’t what it was like at all. I guess I made my decision based on random things I’d heard and general recommendations and, like, the title.
